Hungerford Nature Center & Museum's homeschool is the chance to get your child hands-on nature based education on our facility from our experienced instructors and educators. We offer programs from age 3-12, and the classes run every Thursday. Get additonal details below!

Little Naturalists
Program Details
Ages: 3–6 with a caregiver
Thursdays 10:30 AM–12:00 PM
$60 Members | $70 Non-Members
Drop-In: $20 per class when space available
Little Naturalists is a child-and-caregiver nature program designed to get young children learning, moving, creating, and exploring together.
Every class includes:
Animal Encounter – Meet one of Hungerford's animal ambassadors up close.
Story Time – Enjoy a nature-themed story connected to the day's adventure.
Craft or Fine Motor Activity – Create, build, sort, paint, or practice other hands-on skills.
Nature Exploration & Gross Motor Play – Head outside to explore our forests, meadows, ponds, farmyard, and trails. Children walk, run, climb, balance, search, dig, and play while developing gross motor skills and confidence outdoors.
Each week brings a new nature theme and new experiences. Our goal is to give young naturalists a chance to learn with their hands, move their bodies, meet animals, and build confidence exploring the outdoors alongside their caregiver.
Junior Stewards
Program Details
Ages: 6–12
Thursdays, 1:30–3:00 PM
$60 Members | $70 Non-Members
Drop-in: $20 per class (space permitting)
Junior Stewards is a dropoff program for children ages 6–12 who are curious about wildlife, science, and the outdoors. Each week combines hands-on exploration with creative projects and seasonal adventures, giving participants the opportunity to discover nature while building confidence, curiosity, and environmental stewardship.
Activities may include:
Animal care and live animal encounters
Scientific nature investigations
Nature-inspired art projects
Seasonal activities such as pumpkin carving, leaf crafts, snow play, and winter ecology
Outdoor exploration, games, and environmental discovery
Every session is different, with activities changing to match the season and the natural world around us.
